Lykourgos leads the quantum engineering division where his team is responsible for the development of the architecture of Quantum Brilliance’s integrated quantum devices. He is a distinguished scientist with 45+ authored publications and multiple patents on fundamental and applied research on advanced optical and quantum technologies for applications in spectroscopy, magnetometry, chemical and material analysis, information processing, and disease diagnostics.
Before joining Quantum Brilliance, he led an independent research team at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, translating optical and quantum sensing research into practical solutions for biomarker sensing and analysis, gas- and liquid-phase chemical analysis, 2D materials discovery, battery diagnostics, and human and plant disease diagnostics.
Lykourgos holds a PhD from the University of Crete where his thesis was awarded the “Outstanding Thesis Award”. During his post-doc at the University of California, Berkeley, his research resulted in one of the tightest constraints on possible dark-matter candidate particles using laser-based atomic spectroscopy, and in 2016 he won an Individual Marie Curie fellowship for the development of diamond-based quantum sensors for disease diagnostics.
