Dr. mariam akhtar

March 18, 2026

Mariam leads the Canberra-based quantum engineering team developing both quantum computing and quantum sensing systems.

Previously, Mariam worked across several areas of quantum computing, spanning proof-of-capability and proof-of-scaling efforts for large qubit systems. At the National Physical Laboratory in London, she focused on improving quantum coherence in microfabricated ion traps. At the University of Sussex and Universal Quantum, she worked on using matter links to develop a pathway to large ion microtrap arrays for large scale quantum computing.

Mariam holds a PhD in Experimental Quantum Physics from the University of Strathclyde.
