simon gemmell

March 13, 2026

Simon builds the software systems that scientists use to develop and operate diamond-based quantum systems, while turning research prototypes into reliable platforms suitable for real-world deployment. His work spans the full stack: from embedded software controlling lasers, microwave systems, and hardware interfaces, through to microservice architectures, execution engines, and user interfaces.

As a career software engineer with 20+ years in the field, Simon has worked across many domains, including embedded military radar systems, legal technology (including co-founding his own startup), and SaaS infrastructure providers. His skills extend beyond writing code: he is a strong communicator, team leader, systems thinker, and generalist with a deep understanding of computer systems across hardware and software.

Simon holds a bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering (Honours) from the Australian National University.
